چکیده
Information on long-term fertilization combined with crop rotation can contribute to better management of West African Lixisols. There is little information how organic inputs influence soil chemical properties under cereal monoculture versus a legume. Here, we investigated regimes emphasis in sorghum compared sorghum-cowpea rotation. The field trial Saria Burkina Faso, which has been operation since 1960, was used for this purpose. Soils were sampled at the 0-20 cm depth determine their C, total N, P, mineral available pHwater, exchangeable basic cations, and cation exchange capacity. best exhibited application 40 t ha-1 manure. Recycling residues led decrease N P but maintained higher level exclusive fertilization. Organic determined yield (R2 = 0.89) than monoculture. Our results show that productivity studied Lixisol requires an manure more 5 In addition, including legume regular recycling necessary.

Long-Term Effects of Crops Residues Management on the Soil Chemical Properties and Yields in Cotton - Maize - Sorghum Rotation System in Burkina Faso
In cotton and cereals production systems, the most important cause of soil fertility degradation is the inappropriate crop residues management. In a long-term experiment carried out from 1982 to 2012, the effects of crop residues management (CRM) during 30 years on soil chemical properties and crops yields were evaluated in a cotton-cereals rotation. The experimental design was nonrandomized bl...
متن کاملInheritance of Resistance to Sorghum Shoot Fly, Atherigona soccata in Sorghum, Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench
Sorghum production is affected by a wide array of biotic constraints, of which sorghum shoot fly, Atherigona soccata is the most important pest, which severely damages the sorghum crop during the seedling stage. Host plant resistance is one of the major components to control sorghum shoot fly, A. soccata. To understand the nature of gene action for inheritance of shoot fly resistance, we evalua...

A field study was conducted to determine the fate of atrazine (6-chloro-N2-ethyl-N4-isopropyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine) within the root zone (0 to 90 cm) of a sandy soil cropped with sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] in Gainesville, Florida. Atrazine was uniformly applied at a rate of 1.12 kg ai. ha(-1) to a sorghum crop under moderate irrigation, optimum irrigation, and no irrigation (ra...
متن کاملCrop Residue Removal and Soil Productivity with No-Till Corn, Sorghum, and Soybean
Crop residues have been considered during the past decade as alternate energy sources to supplement dwindling fossil fuel sources and enhance energy independence in the United States. Agricultural scientists have demonstrated the importance of crop residues in reducing soil erosion, enhancing the soil physical environment for plant growth, and as a reserve for major crop nutrients. In eastern N...
